My Bad

Oops. No special election. If Spitzer steps down, Lt. Gov. Patterson serves the end of the 4 year term.

In happier times, Spitzer and Bloomberg congratulate (Lt?) Gov. Patterson upon finding $50 in an old suit jacket.

hoo boy

So Spitzer has been having sex with $5,500/hr. hookers (he's the public official).
If he steps down, we get David Patterson as the Governor, followed by a special election in the short term.
I bet Kevin Sheekey has a plan for this.
Bloomberg '08 rides again.

holy shit this image scares me right now

Pessimism

I found myself really excited that the Democrats took a Republican seat in the special election in the 48th SD, leaving them one seat short of a majority.

Then I remembered that Shelly Silver's Assembly is as corrupt as Joe Bruno's Senate, only it corruptly does things I agree with from time to time.

I find myself really excited about this Barack Obama character, what with is charisma and his changes and his whatnot.

Then I remembered how Spitzer was going to change everything on day one, which was over 400 days ago, but still hasn't exactly pulled it off. It could be that one individual might not be able to single-handedly dislodge centuries of entrenched greed.

One thing hasn't changed. We still can't do worse than Bush. I guess that's a plus.

The "R" word

Now that I can be absolutely sure that I have waited out the few reader's of this blog, its time to get back to work.

It appears that we have a recession on our hands. Here is a really good preview of the underlying causes written a while back.

What resonates with me most is the simple fact that, despite enjoying a historically high standard of living, Americans are just never happy. I think that's a really bad reason for the economy to go into the tank, but it doesn't seem that I get a vote on this.
